MSB students study abroad in China thanks to Wright Global Scholars Fund

Viewing the world as one single community is not just a theoretical concept -- for many UB Merrick School of Business students, it has become a vital part of their education.
UB's study abroad opportunities expose students to the culture and business practices most have only read about in books. This past summer, Professor Jerry Yu accompanied a group of undergraduate and graduate business students on the trip of a lifetime - a week in China - as part of their required curriculum.
Scholarship spotlight - Dana Madden

Full-time student, full-time employee and full-time mother - that description of UB undergrad Dana Madden wouldn't seem to allow the Human Services Administration major much time for studying (let alone eating, sleeping, or anything else), but Madden has managed to make the honor roll every semester since she began her studies at UB.
Scholarship Spotlight - Kevin Conaway
Going back to school while working full time is a challenge. And when that job is in retail management, the task is even more daunting. But for Kevin Conaway, the outcome - sharper business skills and the added credibility of an undergraduate degree - is well worth the effort. This fall, Conaway returned to college after a 10-year hiatus and enrolled in four classes at the Merrick School of Business.
Wright Global Scholars program - Chile trip

In an effort to provide students with a first-hand experience of global business successes, last January, Pitta, along with 14 M.B.A. students, left Baltimore's snow-covered streets to spend a week in sunny, pre-earthquake Chile. They arrived in Santiago-not to relax and enjoy the summer weather south of the equator, but to participate in an intense academic experience that introduced them to successful Chilean business practices.
Scholarship Spotlight - Elisabeth Danner

University of Baltimore student, Elisabeth Danner, is proud to be paying her own way through school and grateful for the scholarship she's received through the University of Baltimore Foundation. An undergraduate student in the Corporate Communications program, Danner says that her scholarship gives her "peace of mind" as it helps ensure that she can continue her education and maintain financial independence. The scholarship she received for the 2009-2010 academic year, one of several funded through the Robert W. Schaefer Undergraduate Scholarship Endowment Fund, was established by UB alumnus and donor Robert W. Schaefer , B.S., '55, to help support students like Danner who are enrolled in undergraduate programs in the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts or the Merrick School of Business. "Receiving this scholarship makes me feel like someone knows how important it is to help students finance their education. Just knowing someone cares makes me want to go the extra mile and achieve my goals," says Danner.
Scholarship Spotlight - Eric Dunton

Scholarship Spotlight
When Eric Dunton decided he wanted to study law, he knew the University of Baltimore was his best choice. "UB is a school that is committed to the practice of law," Dunton says. "It has a solid program, a diverse student body with a wide range of experiences and a location in the heart of the city." Scheduled to graduate this May, Dunton is eager to put his education to use.
Scholarship Success Story - Gregory Bily

"When you come through multiple brain surgeries alive, you begin to see life in a new light," said Gregory Bily, J.D. '10, in his remarks at UB's April 2011 Scholarship Celebration Luncheon. Bily spoke candidly to a crowd of student scholarship recipients and scholarship fund donors about his treatments for hydrocephalus, a condition in which fluid builds up inside the skull and leads to swelling, and a malignant brain tumor.
Scholarship Success Story - Pamela Ng
Pamela Ng was already in the workforce when she decided to broaden her horizons and return to school for an M.B.A. in International Business. “A close friend told me about his studies at the University of Baltimore – the study abroad opportunities, the faculty members who reach out to their students, and the flexibility of online classes,” says Ng. She applied, was accepted, and began her M.B.A. studies in 2009. She’s never regretted her choice.
