Jana Howard Carey, J.D. '76

As a student in the School of Law, Jana Howard Carey, J.D. '76 was impressed with the encouragement her professors offered. "They were always helpful," she remembers, "and because they were successful practitioners in their own right, they provided us with valuable practical knowledge."
As a practicing lawyer, Ms. Carey continued her relationship with UB. "UB doesn't just drop you when you graduate. The faculty and administration were supportive in a variety of ways throughout my career." Ms. Carey reciprocated by taking an active role as a UB alumna - a role that continues to this day. "I received an excellent legal education here and I feel I owe UB a lot." She has given back to the UB community by serving the university in many ways. Among them, she has been a member of the Law Advisory Council, the President's Advisory Council, and is a current member (and past Chair) of the University of Baltimore Foundation Board. Ms. Carey is also a member of the capital campaign committee, lending her expertise, her passion for UB, and her financial support to Uniquely UB: the Campaign for the University of Baltimore.
Ms. Carey is an unabashed cheerleader for UB and its School of Law. "I'd like to see UB get the recognition it deserves as a lynchpin of the Baltimore community. UB has given a lot of people the opportunity to make more of themselves, to be contributors in their community. UB deserves cript"> to be acknowledged as one of the best city-based institutions of higher learning in the country."
