Faculty Success Story - Lucy Holman
Lucy Holman, D.C.D. '09 and current Director of UB's Langsdale Library, is out to bust some library myths.Myth #1: The library is a silent citadel where individual patrons go quietly about their work and no one is allowed to speak above a whisper.
"Librarians today are trying to break the stereotype of the library," says Holman. "Langsdale Library is a place where people can work together. We encourage group collaborations and discussions, and we're building more group study rooms for students." Still, for those who do want to study quietly alone, the Langsdale does have designated quiet areas.
Dr. Lenneal Henderson

Some people recognize him as the on-stage voice and face of Thurgood Marshall. Others remember a distinguished presenter or lecturer at venues as far away as Zimbabwe or as close to home as right here in Baltimore, his adopted city. Still others see a dedicated Board member of a regional nonprofit, or an enthusiastic volunteer from a cause they, too, espouse. Dr. Lenneal Henderson wears many hats (literally and figuratively), but he is undoubtedly best known for the 21 years he has been a part of the University of Baltimore's faculty.
Dr. Ven Sriram - Mary and William G. Baker Faculty Fellowship recipient

Each year, income from the Mary and William G. Baker Faculty Fellowship endowment fund provides special awards for outstanding Merrick School of Business faculty members. This past academic year, one of the recipients of a . Baker award was Professor of Marketing, Ven Sriram.

We are very proud of the work that Jim Kucher and his colleagues in the EOC are doing to promote entrepreneurship in Baltimore.
Law School's Michele Gilman Receives Regents' Faculty Award for Public Service

Michele Gilman, professor in the University of Baltimore School of Law, has been named a recipient of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents' 2010 Faculty Awards. Gilman received the honor during the board's April 16 meeting at University of Maryland University College.
Kendra Kopelke - UB Professor and Editor of Passager

Keeping Time, edited by Mary Azrael and UB's own Kendra Kopelke and now available on Passager's web site, pays close attention to the details of the lives of immigrants, travelers and those who otherwise are in transition. Many entries, such as "Diary of a Teenager" by Liz Rhodebeck, a journalist and poet from Wisconsin, provide deep insights into the authors' perspective as they struggle with issues that at the time seemed all-consuming.
Tigineh Mersha, Fulbright Scholar
Tigineh Mersha, professor of management, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct research during the 2009-10 academic year, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. This makes him the fifth Merrick faculty member to have been selected as a Fulbright Scholar over the years.
Jane Murphy, Dean Gilbert A. Holmes Professor in Clinical Theory and Practice

Jane Murphy joined the University of Baltimore School of Law faculty in 1988 with a mandate to expand the school's clinical programs. One of the reasons she has stayed is the school's continuing commitment to clinical education, which closely mirrors her own. "Clinical experiences are the capstone of a law student's education," explains Murphy. "They allow students to apply what they've learned to the actual practice of law. Very few schools have clinical programs that are as broad in scope as those here at UB."
Faculty Profile: Dalton A. Tong

The theme of UB's 1973 yearbook was: We reflect on the past as a time of fulfillment and look with optimism toward the future. It was a motto that resonated with at least one award-winning member of that senior class - Dalton A. Tong. A magna cum laude graduate of the class of 1973, Tong used his UB education (he also was an outstanding member of the institution's first significant M.B.A. graduating class in 1975) to move into a future that included a highly successful professional career. Now, he is back as a member of the Merrick School of Business (MSB) faculty. "I'm bullish on UB," says Tong. "It's my genesis, it's my history."
