Commencement - for many undergraduates, that walk across the stage is just about the last they see of their alma mater. But for Michael Curry, B.S. '77, commencement merely marked the end of the first stage of his relationship with the University of Baltimore and the beginning of a new commitment that continues to this day.
Donor Spotlight: James Hill

"When I think of UB, I always think of my time attending classes, and the faculty who pushed, cajoled, or tried to do whatever they could to get their students to be their very best," reminisces James Hill, B.S. '70, MPA '83. "I was not a good student, but the interest and effort put forth by the faculty instilled in me the discipline that enabled me to get through the program and, more importantly, helped me immensely in my personal growth."
Donor Success Story: Kathleen Howard Meredith
The University of Baltimore prides itself on providing top quality educational opportunities for motivated students. Just ask Kathleen Howard Meredith, J.D. '78. She originally came to UB from Anne Arundel Community College on a full-tuition academic scholarship. "I am the oldest of nine children and finances were tight in our household. I always understood that I would have to be responsible for my own college and graduate education," says Meredith. "The University of Baltimore opened doors for me that otherwise would have been closed because of my relative lack of financial resources. I will always be thankful for the opportunities UB gave to me."

Vernon Wright believes in the positive benefits of higher education. A graduate of the Merrick School of Business, he built a successful professional career on the foundation he received at UB. In addition, he has consistently supported UB's efforts to provide top quality educational opportunities for students at all levels. "In today's economic climate, education is more important than ever. Today's young people need all the help they can get to pursue their dreams of higher education," says Mr. Wright. "UB provided me with a solid education, and I am happy to do what I can to ensure that today's students receive the same quality of education that I did."

As a student in the School of Law, Jana Howard Carey, J.D. '76 was impressed with the encouragement her professors offered. "They were always helpful," she remembers, "and because they were successful practitioners in their own right, they provided us with valuable practical knowledge."
Early-Stage Enterprises Have a New Home

On April 8 2010, the Edward Attman and Mildred Cohen Attman Enterprise Hatchery, providing resources for early-stage entrepreneurs, had its official ribbon cutting ceremony. The facility serves as a launching point for student entrepreneurs; business coaching, mentoring, consulting and strategizing are all part of the student entrepreneur experience within the hatchery. It's a true extension of the classroom.

Rising to the Expectation - Damon Gasque
For an accountant with a lifetime of business experience, Damon Gasque, B.S. '78, is not a calculating man. Character, motivation, integrity: These are the measures that Gasque-the chief accounting officer and treasurer at ULLICO, a major provider of insurance and investment products to organized labor-uses to determine the worth of any endeavor. As a longtime volunteer and donor to his alma mater, Gasque believes that a true accounting of contributions requires insight into both heart and mind.
Whiting-Turner Donates $1 Million Toward Law School Challenge Grant

Gift is Among Largest Private Donations to Ange los Challenge
The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company has made a $1 million contribution to help match the challenge grant initiated by UB School of Law alumnus Peter Angelos, LL.B. '61, for the construction of a new home for the University of Baltimore School of Law. The firm's president, Willard Hackerman, has been a consistent supporter of University initiatives.
Alumnus Kenneth Asiedu Invests in Merrick

Kenneth Asiedu, M.S. '92, and Geena Asiedu, J.D. '09, recently pledged $100,000 to benefit the Entrepreneurship Opportunity Center.
The Asiedus' pledge will support an endowed Entrepreneurship Fund. The purpose of the fund will be to provide endowed support for operating expenses of the center in the Merrick School of Business.
